Temporary Hiatus

So I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus the past year. I had my son (Toby) last November and since then have taken a break from my book. I enjoyed having the extra time with my baby, but now that he’s approaching his first birthday, I’m trying to kick my butt into gear.

I haven’t done too much more with the novel. I pitched to a few publishers/agents, and entered it in several comps but sadly have received nothing back. It needs some work but I’m feeling a bit lost about how to move forward with it. A mentorship would be amazing, and I may consider working with someone in the new year to get it up to scratch. But I’m also wondering if I should just put it on the back burner and move on to a new project. In the meantime, I’m going to try and get back on top of my book reviews, and have still been freelance writing which is a nice in-between. Watch this space!

The Journey Begins

So I’ve started this website on my journey to becoming a published author. I’ve recently finished the second draft of my first novel and am waiting for some peer feedback before I (hopefully) move to the final stages of editing. Who knows, maybe in a year’s time I’ll have a book due out. Wow, what a dream come true that would be!

In the meantime, I plan to share a bit about my life living in Papua New Guinea. I’ve got a rambunctious, nearly two year old daughter and another on the way (due Nov). And later this month I’ll add animal mommy to my resume (first time ever), with the addition of a 12 week old labrador pup. Her name is Kea (means white in Hawaiian).

As most writers do, I love reading so will also share book reviews from time to time. Mostly contemporary and historical fiction, but I’ve been branching out lately to a bit of fantasy and thriller.

So sit back and enjoy the ride (I know I am).

Thanks for joining me.
